Newsbrief: Giant screen plan for South Bank
A 500-seat cinema, which boasts a huge 270-degree screen, could mean the end of Waterloo's Cardboard City for homeless people. The IMAX cinema, with its glass walls and 'green roof of foliage, would be the second of its kind in Britain - there is one operating in Bradford. Lambeth council is set to give planning permission to the British Film Institute this month.
Local conservation group The Waterloo Trust has slammed the design as a 'neo-modernist gasometer despite The Royal Fine Art Commission's approval.
