Police abseiled down the side of a block of flats in Whitechapel to arrest a young man and end a siege in which two sisters, aged 11 and 17, were held hostage. Officers clambered 20ft from the balcony of a flat in Welstead House, off Cannon Street Road, to the balcony below before forcing their way into the flat and arresting the Bengali youth.
