A blogger has revealed how she lost followers after posting a candid picture calling for the normalisation of women staining their bed sheets with blood when on their periods.

Grace Victory shared a picture of herself lying on her side in her bed, with a stain on the sheet.

Alongside the image, she wrote:

“for the redness turns to shame

“and the inner peace blends to hate

“and the sweetness of chocolate to cure the pain does nothing.”

And she also called out to her followers to “normalise bleeding,” asking “how does this image make you feel?”

The majority of Victory’s followers responded positively to the image. “Periods are normal for 52 per cent of the human race! This is my monthly normal, let’s talk about it,” wrote one person.

“If only I woke up with that small a stain when I’m on my period,” added another.

But while many praised Victory for her candid picture, she then revealed on her story that posting the image resulted in her follower count dropping by 150.

In the scheme of Victory’s 148,000 followers, this isn’t a great amount. However the drop was still noticeable to her.

“I lost 150 followers after posting this,” Victory wrote alongside the image. “How wild is that?”

She continued: “2018 and people are still grossed out over period blood. We are still full of shame and embarrassment over something so so so natural.

“I knew it was bad but I didn’t realise it was THIS bad. Still inspired to create more conversations though.

“Just hate how period blood is viewed. It’s so important for my healing to express and grow through the uncomfortableness of who I am. Sexuality, vaginas, our wombs - why is it so wrong for them to be seen and talked about?”
