Coronavirus: Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Elton John pay tribute to NHS staff

Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Sir Elton John are among the cohort of celebrities to have paid tribute to the NHS in a new heartwarming video.

Posted on Twitter by NHS England, the short video begins with Chief Nursing Officer Ruth May thanking medical staff working on the frontlines of the coronavirus outbreak.

“There are a few other people that would like to share their thanks with you,” says May.

The camera then jumps to Sir Elton John holding a placard that reads #ThankYouNHS and #OurNHSPeople.

“You are our heros and we salute each and every one of you. Thank you,” the musician says.

Then, in a series of clips, we see an array of famous faces holding similar placards and saying “thank you” to the camera.

These include: Sir Paul McCartney, Daniel Craig, Anthony Joshua, David Beckham, Kylie Minogue, Bill Nighy, Sir Mo Farah, Kate Winslet, Naomi Harris, Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill, and Piers Morgan among several others.

The video was followed by a second video featuring more celebrities, including Jonathan Ross, Keira Knightley and Jude Law, all expressing their gratitude to the NHS.

The posts have already garnered more than 3,000 likes and thousands of comments from people between them, with many people chiming in to thank the NHS and other key workers.

“Much respect to every health person all around the world putting their life online in our response to the Covid-19 pandemic [sic],” wrote one person.

“You are our heroes and we respect your sacrifices....Thank you NHS.”

The short videos were released on Thursday evening shortly before the second Clap for Carers event, which saw millions of Britons clapping outside their homes to pay tribute to key workers, such as pharmacists, teachers, and supermarket staff.
