Devon family say they are trapped inside their home due to massive puddle

Family say they 'can't leave the house' after a massive puddle appears outside their front gate

A Plymouth-based family have claimed that a massive puddle has left them trapped inside their home.

Marc Peck, 32, and his wife Gemma have been left with knee-deep water levels outside their house, making it incredibly difficult to leave without getting soaking wet.

The couple also have a nine-year-old daughter and have struggled to get someone to take responsibility for clearing the water.

While Peck managed to get in touch with Plymouth City Council, he was then passed onto the Highways Agency who subsequently referred him to South West Water.

He has yet to find someone to come and restore his home to its former, puddle-less glory.

"The only way out of our house is to wade through dirty water and get soaking wet,” he explained.

"Every time a car drives past too fast it's like Niagara Falls in my garden."

The delivery driver added that the council had agreed to send someone to address the situation but failed to specify when they would arrive, leaving the Peck family quite literally adrift.

South West Water sent an engineer out to assess the damage, however they ultimately decided not to take responsibility for the flooding, claiming that it is the council who should be managing the situation.

A spokesperson for South West Water said: "We attended a report of external flooding in Peter's Park Lane this morning and found two blocked highways gullies - which are the responsibility of the local council.

"As he was on site, our operator tried rodding the gullies to see if this would clear them but they were too blocked. This will be reported to Plymouth City Council.

"While in the vicinity, our operator checked the public sewerage network and found no problems."

The Independent has contacted Plymouth City Council for comment.
