Your assignment

Each month we set readers a photographic assignment and offer them the chance to have their picture published on this page. The brief for September is "The journey". Please send your photographs (preferably in print form, and with your name and daytime telephone number on the back) to Readers' Lives, The Independent Magazine, One Canada Square, Canary Wharf, London E14 5DL. The winning entries will be showcased throughout the month. Winners will receive a bottle of either Champagne or olive oil (please state preference). Photographs cannot be returned.

This week's winner

Liz Cottrill from Lymm, Cheshire, took this photograph on the journey home from Oxford, where her daughter, Jennie (centre, between brothers Michael and Edward), had been offered a university place. "We had lots of photos taken of the children when they were little, and when they looked sweet asleep in the car during long journeys," she says. "They don't look quite so cute when they're teenagers! More comic than cuddly." It was a rare occasion, she adds, getting all three of them together in one place.
