As one of the most successful actors in Hollywood, it would be fair to assume that Reese Witherspoon employs a seasoned glam squad to help her get ready for big events.

But the identity of her go-to makeup artist might just surprise you.

The Big Little Lies star has revealed that, in addition to her friend and long-time makeup artist Molly Stern, she also turns to her 19-year-old daughter, Ava Phillippe, for advice.

“I learn a lot from my daughter [about makeup]” she told People in an interview discussing her charitable lipstick collaboration with Elizabeth Arden.

The 42-year-old actor described Phillippe’s makeup knowledge as “so extensive” before revealing her daughter honed her skills after years of watching tutorials on YouTube.

“She knew how to do a beautiful red carpet look by the time she was 17-years-old,” Witherspoon told the publication.

The Legally Blonde star added that Phillippe is especially talented when it comes to blending eyeshadow and applying highlighter.

“If I have to do my makeup for a dinner or something, I’ll be like, ‘Ava, can you fix my eyeshadow? I can’t remember what goes in the crease,’ because she has this intense knowledge about how to shade. It’s crazy,” Witherspoon said.

“She [also] taught me how to put highlighter on my brow bones and the top of my cheekbones.”

Witherspoon revealed that Phillipe’s highlighting advice was one of the best tips she had received, so much so that she’s started wearing it every day.

“I really liked the way it looked, so now it’s just become part of my makeup routine,” she said.

Makeup skills aren’t the only thing Witherspoon is developing this year.

The actor has collaborated with Elizabeth Arden for the second time to release a new lipstick that will help support equal rights for women around the globe.

The brand's March On campaign is now in its second year and continues to raise funding for UN Women. In 2018, Elizabeth Arden donated $1m and 100 per cent of the lipsticks earnings to the organisation.

Last year, Witherspoon also announced she was joining forces with US plus-size clothing brand Eloquii, to launch a new clothing line for women between US sizes 12 (UK size 16) and 28 (UK size 32) as part of her lifestyle brand Draper James.

Starting for spring 2019, Draper James will be offering a selection of pieces from its full range in plus sizes with hopes of extending this in the future.

Everything will be merchandised together in stores, and the prices will be the same across the board.
