Sia denies using blackface amid Taylor Swift and Scooter Braun dispute

Australian performer is the latest star to weight into the Scooter Braun drama

Pop singer Sia has denied using blackface after Taylor Swift fans unearthed a 2011 photograph of her face and neck painted black amid the ongoing Scooter Braun dispute.

The accusations of blackface occurred after the Australian singer voiced her support for Braun – a music manager whose media holding company, Ithaca Holdings LLC, recently signed a contract that will mean he will acquire Big Machine Label Group, Swift’s former music label.

In light of the business deal, Taylor Swift posted her reaction to the news on Tublr, stating that she was “sad and grossed out” over the news that music manager will soon own her entire music catalogue.

On Sunday, Sia took to Twitter to defend Braun, describing him as a “good kind man”, adding “I love you keep going”.

As a result, fans of Swift responded by posting an old picture of the 43-year-old “Chandelier” singer and shared a video of her wearing black face paint during a performance in Adelaide, Australia in February 2011.

In response, Sia – who is known for hiding her face behind an oversized platinum blonde wig – posted the clip on Twitter.

“For the swift fans trying to make out that I would ever do blackface please see this video,” she captioned the post. “I was painting myself into the backdrop, it was a pre cursor to the wig...”

Sia isn’t the only performer in the entertainment industry to have shown their support for Braun in recent weeks.

Demi Lovato, who she hired Braun to be her manager in May, wrote on Instagram he was a “good man”.

“Personally, I’m grateful he came into my life when he did,” she continued in a post on Instagram Stories.

“Please stop ‘dragging’ people or bullying them. There’s enough hate in this world as it is.”

The news comes days after Cara Delevingne called on Justin Bieber, who was discovered by Braun on YouTube in 2007, to make more of an effort “trying to understand women” after the singer alleged that Swift had used her rift with the music manager to gain sympathy.

After the “You Need To Calm Down” singer accused Braun of “incessant, manipulative bullying”, Bieber rushed his defence and accused Swift of unfairly getting “people to hate on Scooter” by writing the Tumblr post.

“I usually don’t rebuttal things like this but when you try and deface someone i loves character thats crossing a line..[sic],” an excerpt of Bieber’s Instagram post read.

Bieber’s wife, model Hailey Baldwin, soon commented underneath Bieber’s post writing “gentleman”, prompting Delevingne, a close friend of Swift’s, to chime in to the ongoing dispute.

“Gentleman? @haileybieber @justinbieber you must be bored,” Delevingne wrote.

“I wish you spent less time sticking up for men and more time trying to understand women and respecting their valid reactions.”
