Steve Carell posts thank you video to healthcare workers at Emerson Hospital

Steve Carell has expressed his gratitude towards the healthcare staff working on the front lines at the hospital where he was born and where his mother worked as a nurse.

In a YouTube video, shared to the Twitter account of Emerson Hospital in Massachusetts, the actor says: “Hi Emerson Hospital, this is Steve Carell.

“I like to consider myself sort of an alumni of Emerson Hospital because I was born there. I was voted ‘cutest baby of 1962.’”

Carell then continued, explaining that his mother, Harriet Koch, worked at the hospital as a nurse for more than 30 years, so “Emerson and I go way, way, way back”.

According to the 57-year-old, who joked that he has “great memories of being incredibly sick” at the hospital, he wanted to thank the staff at Emerson for “everything [they’re] doing” amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“Thank you, folks, for everything you’re doing,” The Morning Show actor concluded. “It’s greatly appreciated, keep up the good work.”

The gesture, which has been viewed more than 36,000 times on YouTube, prompted other former patients to applaud the hospital and its staff.

“My husband and I, two of our kids and two of the grand kids were born at Emerson,” one person commented. “Also we've had six surgeries there - all successful. I volunteered there for the last 12 years. Thanks for the support Steve Carell!”

Another said: “I'm also an Emerson Alumni. Cutest baby of '85 right here. Thanks Emerson!”

This is not the first time Carell has attempted to spread joy amid the pandemic. Last month, the actor joined his The Office co-star John Krasinski for the first episode of a new YouTube series called Some Good News.

During the show, which aims to spread only positive news, the pair reminisced about the popular sitcom in honour of the 15-year anniversary since it first premiered.
