Petr Altrichter, the principal conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra since September last year, is bringing the orchestra to the Royal Festival Hall next Monday (6 April) for their first appearance in the capital together. RFH audiences may already be familiar with Altrichter - he stepped in as a late replacement for Mariss Jansons last year with LPO. A successor to a fellow countryman Libor Pesek, Altrichter has been developing a Czech theme in the orchestra's programming and is now keen to explore new avenues with the RLPO, in particular Russian music. To that end, next Monday's concert will feature Shostakovich's mammoth 10th Symphony as well as Beethoven's Leonora Overture No.3 and Mozart's Piano Concerto No 23 with Martin Roscoe.

In conjunction with the RLPO, The Independent is able to offer to the first 20 callers (RFH Box Office 0171 960 4242) a pair of free tickets for the concert along with a Virgin CD of the works of contemporary Czech composer Novak performed by the RLPO with Libor Pesek. Any subsequent callers will be able to purchase half-price tickets for the concert.
