TI says he takes his daughter to gynaecologist every year to 'check her hymen' is still intact

Rapper TI said he takes his 18-year-old daughter to the gynaecologist every year to “check her hymen” and make sure it’s “still intact”.

The actor discussed the topic of his teenage daughter’s virginity in an interview with Nazanin Mandi and Nadia Moham on Ladies Like Us.

During the interview, which aired on Tuesday, TI was asked if he’s had the “sex talk” with his daughter Deyjah Harris, who is currently in her first year of college.

“Not only have we had the conversation, we have yearly trips to the gynaecologist to check her hymen,” the rapper said.

“So we’ll go and sit down and the doctor will come and talk and you know, the doctor will maintain a high level of professionalism,” TI continued. “And he’s like: ‘Well, you know sir, in order for me to share information... and I say: ‘Deyjah they want you to sign this. They want you to sign this. So we can share information. Is there anything that you would not want me to know? See Doc, no problem.’”

And while the 39-year-old said he has been informed that the hymen can be broken through numerous activities, not just sexual penetration, he said he tells the doctor: “She don’t ride no horses, she don’t ride no bike, she don’t play no sports. Just check the hymen, please, and give me back my results expeditiously.”

The rapper then added: “As of her 18th birthday, her hymen is still intact,” before joking that people don’t want to have sex with a virgin because they are “no fun”.

The father-of-six’s “disturbing” comments sparked backlash on social media, where he was accused of being “coercive” and “creepy”.

“This is absolutely disgusting and perverted and vile and ignorant and just plain wrong,” one person wrote on Twitter. “TI is a sick, controlling narcissist and there is absolutely NO way Deyjah, her mother or any woman in TI’s life should be okay with this.”

Another said: “I’m so upset for Deyjah… to hear TI laughing while making his disregard for her sexual agency so public…”

Under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA), a patient’s family can access information regarding the patient if the patient gives written consent, according to the US Department of Health and Human Services.

The rapper’s comments come a year after the World Health Organisation (WHO), UN Human Rights, and UN Women called on governments to ban virginity testing globally because it “violates several human rights and ethical standards including the fundamental principle in medicine to do no harm,” as reported by Marie Claire and the Fuller Project.
