Transgender dad and partner announce they are expecting first biological child

The family are expecting a son who they describe as “diagnosis: male”

Two dads – one of which is transgender - have spoken of their happiness as they prepare to welcome their first biological child.

Trystan Reese, 34, and Biff Chaplow, from Portland, Oregon, are already parents to two adopted children but always longed for a baby of their own, the Daily Mail reports.

After experiencing a miscarriage at six weeks last year, the couple were concerned that they had missed their ‘only’ chance but announced their good news on WNYC podcast, the Longest Shortest Time.

Here, the dads revealed that following the miscarriage they initially wanted to wait a year before trying to conceive again, but they decided to try right away after taking the complications of restarting and stopping testosterone into consideration.

Six months into trying, Trystan woke up feeling sick, proceeded to take a pregnancy test and discovered that he was in fact expecting.

Because of their miscarriage, Trystan revealed that he became obsessed in the early days of the pregnancy, neurotically weighing himself and taking multiple pregnancy tests.

But, that wasn’t the only thing the couple were concerned about. Ahead of their six-week ultrasound, the dads decided to call ahead to the ob-gyn’s office to explain their situation in advance to let them know how to treat a pregnant trans-dad.

“I can feel someone looking at my face and searching for the remnants of womanhood,” he said Trystan explained.

They kind of squint their eyes a little bit and I can tell they're trying to take away my beard, they're trying to de-transition me in their heads.”

Luckily, their fears were unfounded and the couple were faced with nothing but welcome arms.

“There just hasn't been an ounce of transphobia from anyone I have come in contact with,” Trystan added.

“Every person wouldn't even bat an eye that there was a dude with a beard claiming to be pregnant who is here to get bloodwork done - and I have been trans long enough to know that doesn't come magically.”
