Less than a fortnight after the Duchess of Sussex became an official member of the royal family, she's been named one of the most influential women in Britain by Vogue magazine.

A number of women have made a very strong impression on the nation over the past few months due to their trailblazing work across a variety of industries.

Vogue has curated a list called “Vogue 25”, which features 25 prominent women aged between 22 and 73 years old who have been perceived as “defining - and redefining - the way we live now.”

Some of those included, such as the duchess, five-time Brit Award nominee Dua Lipa and human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, may seem like obvious choices for the roster.

However, the other lesser-known individuals on the list are just as worthy of the recognition.

Maria Balshaw CBE, director of the Tate art museums and galleries, has been described as “the most powerful woman in art” having taken charge of “Picasso 1932”, the first solo exhibition of the artist’s work ever to be held at the Tate Modern.

In April, Collette Roche was made chief operating officer of Manchester United, elevating her to the most senior position that a woman has ever held at the football club.

When Black Panther hit cinema screens in February this year, many people were struck by Letitia Wright’s undeniable star quality in her portrayal as the technologically brilliant Shuri.

The 24-year-old actress hopes her portrayal of the Marvel character will inspire young girls to aspire for careers in STEM and has also been very candid about her struggles with depression.

Also on the list is Orla Doherty, a TV producer and environmentalist.

Doherty was the driving force behind one of Blue Planet II’s most powerful episodes on the BBC, producing the finale that revealed the devastating effects of plastic pollution with more than 10 million people tuning in to watch.

At only 29 years old, biochemist Priyanka Joshi is being hailed as “one of the most important young faces in science” due to her significant research into Alzheimer’s disease.

It’s been 11 years since the last Harry Potter book hit the shelves and seven years since the last instalment of the film series was released.

However, JK Rowling continues to prevail as one of the world’s most popular authors with the successful stage production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and five-part Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them franchise.

Sinead Burke, a writer and academic who was born with achondroplasia (a genetic disorder that effects bone growth), has been making waves in the world of fashion with her efforts to increase awareness about inclusivity in the industry.

As co-founder of company Social Chain, Hannah Anderson has been lauded as a marketing ace thanks to her impressive work on campaigns for a number of internationally renowned brands such as Apple, Amazon and Nike.

As for Meghan, it will be intriguing to witness how she continues to support important causes in her new role as a member of the royal family when taking her former positions as a counsellor for charity One Young World and a UN Women’s Advocate into account.
