Watch: Lord Mayor's show

Five thousand participants, 200 horses, 220 motor vehicles, 19 marching bands, 22 horse-drawn carriages, a golden coach, a moving theatre and not a Dick Whittington in sight. This year, the new Lord Mayor of London Richard Nichols (who was inaugurated yesterday), has asked his old school, Christ's Hospital, to lead the show. They will be headed by a 94-strong band, followed by a group of pupils dressed in the original 16th-century school uniform - complete with bright yellow stockings which were supposed to keep vermin at bay. The future of the school will then be represented by the moving theatre (right) - which includes a working model of the planetary system symbolising different aspects of school life. The model will be encircled by rollerblading children in futuristic costumes, and a cryogenic Edward VI - the founder of the school. And you thought you'd seen it all.
