A north Wales mother who once devoured three whole tubs of Cadbury’s Roses in a single day has shed 11 stone after embarking on a New Year diet.

Rachelle Thompson weighed 25 stone at the end of 2016 and resolved to change her unhealthy lifestyle in the new year.

After years of living off takeaways and junk food, Thompson decided it was time to lose weight when she noticed her belly popping out of her size 28 jeans on New Year’s Day.

She immediately disposed of all processed, sugar-laden foods and set out on her weight loss journey.

One year later, the 48-year-old is a healthy size 12-14 and credits her transformation to regular exercise and the support of a slimming club which she joined as the heaviest member.

Recalling the days leading up to Christmas 2016, Thompson confessed she overdid it on the sugary foods,

“In one sitting I scoffed three boxes of Roses chocolates and washed it down with a bottle of wine, then got stuck into the mince pies and peanuts the following day,” she said.

While she admitted that the indulgent snack made her feel a bit unwell at the time, she persisted almost as if to punish herself for her gluttony.

The bookmaker credits her extreme binging to helping prompt her decision to lose weight as it made her aware of her dangerous “addiction to food”.

The Bangor-based mother-of-two started to gain weight after the birth of her youngest son, who is now 15 years old.

She blames her overindulgence on loneliness as her eldest, aged 20, had just left home for university.

“The binge drinking sessions would be followed by intense eating sessions which could last all week until the next time I went out,” she said.

Now, Thompson exercises five times a week and consumes a healthy diet consisting of fibre-rich grains, sugar-free treats and plenty of homemade meals.

“January is a great time to put your mistakes behind you and start again,” she said.
