Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star Gabrielle Ruiz has opened up about having a miscarriage in a powerful Instagram post.

The 34-year-old actor uploaded a scenic photograph of her and her husband, Philip Pisanchyn, sitting in front of Wisdom Tree in Los Angeles with sweeping views of the city behind them.

In the caption, Ruiz revealed she and Pisanchyn, “went through all the emotions” upon receiving the news that she had miscarried, from feeling shocked and confused to overwhelmed and relieved.

The actor added that the day she had the miscarriage happened to be Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day, which helped her feel supported.

“The stories you all shared gave me strength, understanding and the feeling that I truly wasn’t alone and that this all wasn’t in any way my fault,” she said.

“So, I feel it is my duty to continue the transparency in sharing the secret story-telling of miscarriages. Because no one really talks about it as much as we should. I now have the opportunity to tell you that you, my dear, are not alone.”

Ruiz then went on to share the details of her miscarriage.

“I decided to wait a week to see if my body would miscarriage on it’s own and if it hadn’t, I would help my miscarriage along with the at-home pill prescription. On the fifth day of this plan, I experienced sharp pains and I just couldn’t wait anymore,” she wrote.

The entire at-home pill process took 10 hours from beginning to end, Ruiz said, adding how she passed the time watching Sex and the City reruns with close friends until she fell asleep.

Ruiz went on to praise her husband for being “so gentle and caring” and supporting her through the pain.

The actor concluded her post by urging others going through a miscarriage to know that it’s “a common possibility” and is nobody’s fault.

“We truly don’t know how brave our bodies and hearts are until we prevail in the moment, tears and all,” she said.

Ruiz’s post has already been liked more than 6,000 times and garnered hundreds of supportive comments.

“I’m so sorry,” wrote one person. “I can’t imagine the pain, emotionally and physically. Thank you for being brave & sharing your truth with us. Sending you guys love and strength.”

Another added: “Thank you for your openness. Sending you wishes for healing.”
