Lena Dunham shares Instagram post about weighing ‘the most I ever have’ and feeling ‘the happiest I’ve ever been’

‘I’ve spent a lot of time in this life feeling like too much’

Lena Dunham has shared an empowering post on Instagram about self-acceptance, saying she's the "happiest" she's ever felt.

The Girls creator has candidly spoken about body positivity in the past, having previously revealed how she used to "fetishise" her body when attempting to lose weight.

In her most recent Instagram post, the actor and writer shared a photo of herself lying on a bed in black lingerie.

In the picture's caption, Dunham explains that she's often gone through life feeling as though she's "too much" for others, in many respects of the word.

"I’ve spent a lot of time in this life feeling like too much. Too hungry. Too anxious. Too loud. Too needy. Too sick. Too dramatic. Too honest. Too sexy (jk lol.)," she writes.

"I was always sent the message, in insidious ways, that I took up too much room and demanded too much from life and sometimes gave too much to people who didn’t want any at all."

However, Dunham says her perspective changed when she came to the realisation that she doesn't have to please everyone.

"For the right people, my too much is just enough," she states.

Now, at the age of 32, the creator of the now defunct feminist newsletter Lenny Letter says she has reached a greater level of happiness than she was able to achieve when she was younger.

"At 32: I weigh the most I ever have. I love the most I ever have. I read and write and laugh the most I ever have. And I’m the happiest I’ve ever been," she writes.

"Not the frail, precarious happiness of ‘things are going perfectly’. The big, generous, jiggly happiness of ‘I think I’m finally starting to get the hang of this.’ Not too much... Just enough."

Following the post, fans of Dunham have written comments commending the star for her frankness and positivity.

"This sums up my life TOO MUCH! Thank you for being you," wrote journalist Bryony Gordon.

"All of this. And all of you. PERFECTION!" remarked American political commentator Sally Kohn.

Dunham recently sparked controversy when she admitted that she hadn't been truthful about the extent of her knowledge of a rape accusation made by actor Aurora Perrineau against Girls writer Murray Miller in 2017.

Having previously released a statement attempting to discredit Perrineau when the allegation emerged, a year later Dunham wrote an open letter published in The Hollywood Reporter, in which she apologised to the actor for her actions.

"I didn't have the 'insider information' I claimed but rather blind faith in a story that kept slipping and changing and revealed itself to mean nothing at all. I wanted to feel my workplace and my world were safe, untouched by the outside world," she wrote.

"There are few acts I could ever regret more in this life."

Miller’s attorney previously said his client “categorically and vehemently" denied Perrineau’s claims, and in August 2018 the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office announced that, following an investigation, Miller would not be prosecuted.
