Aetna Life is to fight a High Court ruling that could leave hundreds of thousands of investors facing capital gains tax bills totalling billions of pounds. The company is opposing a judgment saying single premium bonds are not genuine life assurance policies if the sum paid on death is greater than its surrender value. The appeal is expected to be heard in six months' time.
