Amex in Spain

American Express has negotiated an encashment charge for traveller's cheques of 1 per cent with La Caixa, a Spanish bank with 2,400 branches. This compares with 1-2 per cent or a flat fee of pounds 2.50 to pounds 4 at other banks.
