BARCLAYCARD has cut its interest rate from 1.85 to 1.79 per cent a month.

But the annual percentage rate has come crashing down from 27.6 per cent to 25.8 per cent for those who pay the pounds 10 annual fee, because of a change in the way the APR is calculated.

For students and others who escape the fee, the APR falls from 24.6 to 23.7 per cent.

The lower rate comes into effect for transactions from 1 November and will apply to all statements from 1 December.
