Motorists looking for the cheapest car insurance are being offered a service claiming to be able to find the best quote across nearly every company in the market.

The only exceptions are direct insurers, such as Direct Line and Churchill, which refused to join the quotation system.

London-based OneQuote gives details of the most competitive quote and broker's address to callers, who pay by dialling an 0891 number, for which they are charged 48 pence per minute peak rates, 36 pence at other times.

The company claims an average call lasts five minutes and charges range between pounds 1.50 and pounds 2.50. The service is open between 9am and 6pm, six days a week. The number is 0891 515515
