HOUSEHOLDERS who install security alarm systems without checking the credentials of the suppliers could find that insurance companies turn down their policy claims. The British Insurance & Investment Brokers' Association says insurers usually require suppliers to be approved by the National Approval Council for Security Systems (Nacoss).

A list of approved companies is available from Nacoss, Queensgate House, 14 Cookham Road, Maidenhead, Berkshire SL6 8AJ. 0628 37512.
