An international debit card is being launched by Midland Bank. Customers with an Autocheque card will be eligible to apply for the card, which will use the Switch system in the UK. They can use the card to make cash withdrawals from Cirrus cash machines abroad and buy goods from retailers displaying the Maestro symbol.

Overseas transactions will cost 2 per cent with a minimum fee of pounds 1 and will appear on bank statements within seven days.
