THE Contemporary Art Society Market returns to Covent Garden next week, offering the opportunity to buy works by living British artists. The idea is to make buying art fun and accessible. Taking a tip from sponsors Sainsbury, the market will be adopting a cash-and-carry formula to enable visitors to take their purchases home. The shelves will promptly be refilled. Original paintings, prints and sculptures by young and established artists will sell for prices ranging from pounds 100 to pounds 1,750. Star bargains will include works by Dame Elisabeth Frink, Maggi Hambling, Prunella Clough, Patrick Procktor and Tom Phillips.

The Contemporary Art Society Market is at Smith's Galleries, 25 Neal Street, Covent Garden, London WC2, 27 October- 1 November (Tue-Fri 11am- 7pm, Sat-Sun 11am-5pm).
