If you've ever tried to clear out some of the larger unwanted items from your home, you'll know that it can be a costly business. Some councils charge up to £50 to take away an old sofa, for instance. But a charity is offering to do it free, just in time for anyone who's planning a bit of spring cleaning.

British Heart Foundation shops, and its furniture and electrical stores, will pick up everything without charge – from a bag of clothes, books and shoes to that unwanted sofa, dining table or wardrobe. And every penny of profit it raises from selling your unwanted stuff funds life-saving research into fighting coronary heart disease. Last year the charity raised more than £31m.
