bottom line
Accountancy has always been considered a solid grounding for a career in business. But a recent MORI poll carried out for Hays Accountancy Personnel suggests that it might be
the route to government, too. While 57 per cent and 59 per cent respectively felt accountants would make good company chairmen and managing directors, 67 per cent opted for Chancellor of the Exchequer, 51 per cent for civil servant, 26 per cent Tory party chairman and 23 per cent Prime Minister. Too bad that, apparently, no chancellor since the war has had accountancy training.
