Lord Mackay, the Lord Chancellor, is in favour of changing the law to enable research into how juries reach their verdicts. But Lord Taylor, the Lord Chief Justice, is against the move, saying that nothing must be allowed to interfere with the lay jury, which is "the foundation of our common law".
