Halifax nears shares ruling

The High Court is expected to rule on Monday whether Halifax and Leeds Permanent building societies can offer free shares to members following their plannned merger and flotation as a bank.

If the court rules in favour of the proposed scheme, borrowers and members with a balance of more than £100 in savings accounts could get free shares worth approximately £600.
