POLITICAL violence surged across Colombia yesterday, 10 days before presidential elections, leaving at least 19 people dead in fighting between leftist rebels and security forces. The most serious clash took place when 200 National Liberation Army guerrillas stormed the town of Morales in northern Bolivar province.
