RAIL fares in the South-east would rise by 28.5 per cent if VAT is imposed on tickets, according to BR estimates. The sharp increase incorporates a VAT increase of 17.5 per cent, an annual fare rise in the pipeline, and the likely loss of passengers switching from Network SouthEast to the roads.
