45 killed in Spanish bus crash
TORREBLANCA (Reuter) - A bus going from Barcelona to Seville swerved off a bend on Spain's coastal motorway yesterday and somersaulted down a steep embankment, killing 45 people.
Ten of the 11 survivors, who included three children and the unharmed driver, were said to be seriously hurt, with multiple fractures and head injuries.
The crash happened 140 miles south of Barcelona. The bus, said to have been going at 65mph when the speed limit was 24mph, was taking 56 passengers to the Expo 92 exhibition.
It was the county's worst such accident for 13 years. In 1979, a bus fell into a river killing 48 people, 44 of them children.
