8,500-year-old canoe dug up

ARCHAEOLOGISTS have excavated an 8,500-year-old canoe in Yobe state, northern Nigeria. The News Agency of Nigeria said that the 8m-long (26ft) canoe, discovered in 1993 and dated using radio carbon techniques, took two weeks to dig from beneath 5m of mud and will be housed in a special building. - Reuters, Lagos
