US STOCKS fell for a third day as analyst reports predicting slower growth for Compaq Computer set off declines in industry leaders such as Intel, Microsoft and IBM. Citigroup and other financial stocks rose with bonds after the government reported inflation last year was the slowest since 1949.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average sank 59.76, or 0.6 per cent, to 9306.58. The Nasdaq Composite fell 38.81, or 1.7 per cent, to 2288.01.
