Grab your Audrey Hepburn getups and glasses of wine: your favourite moms of Monterey are coming back to the small screen.

On Friday, it was confirmed that Big Little Lies would indeed be returning for a second season on HBO - this time with seven episodes in tow. In the network's announcement, it was reported that Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman will reclaim their roles in the series, and continue as executive producers.

Famed TV writer and producer David E. Kelley will craft the latest Big Little Lies season from a story by Liane Moriarty.

While contracts are still being negotiated, most of the cast will also return. But the dramedy, based on Moriarty's novel of the same title, has found itself a new director in Andrea Arnold (Transparent, I Love Dick) this time around; the first season's director Jean-Marc Vallée has moved on to produce the show.

Initially, Big Little Lies was set to be a limited series, but its success was overwhelming.

In a statement, Witherspoon announced: “I’m thrilled to be bringing back this talented team of artists. It gives us the opportunity to delve deeper into the lives of these intriguing and intricate Monterey families and bring more of their stories back to the audience who embraced and championed them.

"I’m beyond excited to be working with talented and acclaimed director Andrea Arnold who will be at the helm. Andrea’s unique storytelling style will be a welcome addition to the filmmaking team.”

According to Vulture, the series will go into production during March and August 2018 and is looking to cast four new characters: Michael Perkins, a teacher at Otter Bay Elementary School who wants to educate students on global warming.

Renata (Laura Dern) isn't supposed to be a fan of this character because of the way it affects Amabella. A new school admin employee will be the confidant of Jane (Shailene Woodley).

Watch out, Madeline Mackenzie! Bonnie's parents will enter the picture as viewers will meet Elizabeth and Martin Howard. It'll be revealed that Elizabeth is seemingly Zen, but actually abusive, while Bonnie's relationship with Martin is strained. The end of season one seemed like a new beginning for the Monterey moms, but nothing lasts forever on Big Little Lies. While we wait for more news, we'll be preparing ourselves for more Monterey drama and trauma.
