British Gas is considering pulling out of the domestic gas supply business in Scotland and northern England, it confirmed last night. Talks about moves involving a Scottish electricity company were "not now being pursued".
The disclosure appeared to confirm reports that British Gas had been considering selling its gas-supply business in Scotland and northern England for pounds 250m to Scottish Hydro Electric, the smaller of Scotland's two main electricity companies.
It appeared that talks between the two companies continued until yesterday, only for the Scots to pull out because of what they saw as British Gas' logistical problems.
