NEW YORK

US stocks rose for the first time in four sessions. Computer-related shares rallied on Microsoft's decision to split its stock.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 82.65 to 9203.32 after spending much of the day almost unchanged. 3M and American Express accounted for a third of the gain.

The Standard & Poor's 500 Index rose 8.76 to 1233.95. The Nasdaq Composite climbed 30.23 to 2369.11.
