STOCKS fell on renewed concern that government reports later this week will give the Federal Reserve reason to raise interest rates soon. An early gain of 125 points by midday evaporated late in the session as investors fretted that a jobs report on Friday will show the economy growing fast enough to stoke inflation.
The Dow Jones average fell by 9.19 points, or 0.1 per cent, to 10,645.96. The Standard & Poor's 500 lost 0.67 points to 1,328.05, and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 14.85, or 0.6 per cent, to close at 2,623.64.
