GERMANY'S DAX INDEX rose on Thursday, ending three days of declines as investors shrugged off fears raised by NATO air strikes and took heart from the recovery on Wall Street.

The Dax index closed up 1.39 per cent, or 66.48 points, at 4,863.81.

Hypo Vereinsbank was up 0.27 per cent to 56.33 euros after the chief executive, Albrecht Scmidt, said he expected 1999 profits to exceed 1998's figure of 2.5 billion marks.
