THE Xetra DAX regained ground in late trading as a firmer Wall Street carried it to close 1.15 per cent up at 5,160.47. Global markets were helped by weaker-than-expected US housing starts, easing fears that a strong US economy could trigger higher rates.
Big gains and volumes in heavyweights DaimlerChrysler and chemicals group Hoechst buoyed the market. DaimlerChrysler finished 2.59 euros higher at 89.15 euros after forecasting higher full-year sales.
