SHARES CLOSED slightly higher in Germany, lifted by strong gains in the banking sector after Goldman Sachs raised its forecasts for the sector.
Deutsche Bank gained 4.75 per cent and Dresdner lifted 4.44 per cent after Goldman raised its share price targets for 2000.
It said Germany's proposed tax reforms would boost bank earnings.
The benchmark DAX-30 rose 0.33 per cent, or 18.60 points, to close at 5,607.10.
