SHARE PRICES jumped 2.20 per cent after the strong opening on Wall Street. Market sentiment was boosted by the strong dollar and hopes of further cuts in European interest rates.

The Xetra DAX index of leading shares rose by 105.74 points to close at 4,911.43 points. Traders now expect the index to challenge the key psychological barrier of 5,000 points.

Bank stocks benefited most, with Deutsche Bank up 3.56 per cent and Dresdner Bank up 3.3 per cent.
