GERMANY'S BENCHMARK Xetra DAX index fell by more than 1 per cent, unnerved by early falls on Wall Street in the face of the Brazilian financial crisis.
The electronically traded Xetra index ended down 1.59 per cent or 79.37 points to 4,902.75. The floor DAX fell 0.39 per cent or 19.05 points to 4,912.75.
A 2.8 per cent increase in German gross domestic product, up from 2.2 per cent in 1997, did little to impress the market.
