GERMANY'S BENCHMARK index hit a year-high on Friday, boosted by benign United States payrolls data and an 8 per cent surge in Mannesman.
The DAX closed 0.4 per cent stronger at 5,658.1 points, eclipsing its previous closing year-high of 5,652.02 points.
Pharmaceutical and chemical stocks also gained amid further consolidation among US rivals.
"The [US] data pushed the DAX into positive territory," one trader said.
