LEADING SHARES see-sawed between positive and negative territory before persistent weakness in telecom stocks left the index lower by the end of the day. The FTSE-100 closed down 15.2 points or 0.2 per cent at 6,235.4, although the overall market was little changed. A 3.9 per cent tumble in British Telecom wiped 12.9 points off the FTSE, while fellow heavyweight Vodafone AirTouch lost 3.5 per cent, cutting the index by a similar amount.
