LEADING SHARES ended a roller-coaster session slightly higher, buoyed by a firm Wall Street performance, and index heavyweights BP Amoco and Vodafone AirTouch. The two oil and telecom stocks together added 26 points, helping the FTSE 100 close up 13.4 points at 6,020.6.
Recent excitement over real and rumoured bid activity among the financials abated, and investors waited for next week's interest rate-setting meetings.
