THE MARKET closed modestly higher, buttressed by another storming day for BT. The FTSE 100 finished 0.1 per cent, 7.7 points, higher at 6,653.7, well down from its session high of 6,694.2.
The big story was the announcement that Freeserve had signed up with BT Cellnet to send Web services, such as e-mail, share prices and sports results, to mobile phones. Investors flocked to both shares; Freeserve climbed 29 per cent to 372p.
