The FTSE 100 had closed at another record high on Friday but dropped yesterday to close down 48.2 points to 6,694.0.
Footsie heavyweight fallers helping the market lower were drugs groups AstraZeneca, which lost 208p to pounds 25.22, and SmithKline Beecham, which fell 61p to 822p.
