SHARE PRICES closed slightly lower, but well off their early highs, after a follow-through rally ran out of steam in the last half hour of trading on profit-taking and nervousness ahead of the Federal Open Market Committee meeting tomorrow.

The Dow Jones closed down 13.13 points at 9,345.70, having traded in a 9,430.66 to 9,356.51 range.

The Nasdaq ended up 4.34 at 2,510.23. The S&P 500 index was down 6.62 at 1,273.02.
