STOCKS rose as investors piled into computer shares that lost up to 15 per cent in past weeks. The Dow average rose 41.32, or 0.4 per cent, to 9,339.95. The S&P 500 gained 1.88 to 1,239.16. The Nasdaq climbed 22.89 to 2,283.44.
For the week, the Nasdaq lost 1.7 per cent, but is up 4.1 per cent on the year. The S&P 500 climbed 0.7 per cent in the week, and is up 0.8 per cent in 1999. The Dow rose 0.7 per cent for the week, and is up 1.7 per cent for the year.
