PRICES WERE mixed, with a technology rally outweighing investor unease about the Nato air strikes in Kosovo. By midday, the Dow Jones average had recouped an earlier 89-point loss to trade down just 10.54 at 9,825.85. The Nasdaq Composite was up 6.80 at 2,441.60.

IBM was among the major gainers, up $37/16 at $1743/4. Compaq and Dell Computer also rose. Share prices were propped by positions being squared ahead of the first-quarter close.
